CPFA Endorses SB 562, Californians for a Healthy California Act
If successful, this bill would help establish universal health coverage and regulate the healthcare system across the state of California, thereby protecting the nearly 40,000 part-time faculty in the California Community College System who are otherwise left vulnerable to exorbitant healthcare costs without adequate coverage from districts.
Assembly Member Medina Introduces AB 310, February 6, 2017
If successful, Section 87881.5 shall be added to the Education Code, which would mandate that community college districts accurately report on total spending on part-time faculty office hours and prominently post this information on their websites.
Community College districts and local bargaining units must now negotiate the language of “re-employment preference” for thousands of part-time faculty in the California Community Colleges System.
Thank you to UPTE-CWA 9119 for their unfailing support and to CTA and CFT for co-sponsoring this bill. Of course, thank you to the many other statewide groups who threw in their support.
CPFA spearheaded AB 591, a bill that would extend Part-time facultys’ teaching load limit to 67% of a Full-timer’s load. We are at work on new legislative initiatives having to do with PTF pay parity, PTF job security, fair PTF benefits and better PTF institutional integration, which are all critically important to our students’ success.
